Frequently Asked Questions

What makes your company different?

We expect our customers to get at least two other proposals. It's good to to know that you are getting the craftsmanship you deserve at a reasonable price. Sometimes we aren't the "cheapest", but we feel we will always give you the BEST product. There are lots of ways contractors can over promise and under deliver. We take care in the details. Quality matters.  We router the edges, countersink the bolts, put fascia boards up to create a clean and aesthetically pleasing finish, and we scribe the deckboards around every pole for a gap free finish. We know this is a big investment and we want you to be happy, not just when the job is finished, but five and ten years from now too. We carefully select our materials, use transits and string lines to get every line straight. We copper cap our poles for a nice custom finish. Quality isn't expensive, it's priceless. It's easy to look at the bottom line, but make sure you are comparing like materials with the same options.

Why do details matter?

Not only do details make the work more pleasing to the eye, but the added precision creates more strength. A  straight line of poles create a solid foundation for framing and decking. When everything is square, the pier comes together and disappears into the scenery, allowing you to maximize and enjoy your waterfront view.

Which is better; copper caps or vinyl?

While both preserve and extend your investment, copper capping will last the lifetime of the pier. Copper is custom fit to the pole, while vinyl caps are pre-manufactured in 1/2” increments, and more susceptible to changes in weather.

Do you serve my area?

We work all over the Eastern and Western Shores of Maryland. We keep our equipment in Queenstown and Chester Maryland, however we are always on the job. Chances are, we will be in your area soon.

Can I get an estimate?

Sure! We can usually come out to your property and take a look within the week. After assessing your concerns and determining what you want, we can put together a proposal with the materials we suggest along with a pricing breakdown. Estimates are free, so go ahead and give us a call.

Do I need a permit?

Yes, a county permit is required for marine construction work. Depending on the project, an MDE permit is required too. We can help you figure out whether or not you need one or both. If a contractor says no, you can contact the county or MDE directly to double check. We provide customers with a copy of the permit before work starts.

MDE permit information

Do you file permits?

Yes, we have been assisting customers with permits for 7 years.

How long does it take to get a permit?

This will vary with every project. Generally it takes about 90-120 days from the day it is filed. Often it takes much less. Don't wait, file that permit as soon as possible. You will have 3 years to complete work permitted by the MDE. County permits are good for 6 months, and are usually typically issued in less than a month.

Do you work year round?

We sure do! Don't wait until you need the work. Get that project started in the fall or winter and be ready for the first break in the weather come spring. Our crew works in rain, snow, ice, wind, sun, and even holidays. We can work on your project while you are away for the winter.

Do you have references?

We have lots of references from various customers. We have completed work for local municipalities, commerical businesses, restuarants, and developers. Ask your neighbor and your friends, chances are they know us or someone else who does.

Are you licenesed and insured?

Yes, we are licensed with the MDE 052(E) and MHIC 127020. We are insured and can provide proof of insurance with our proposal upon request. Bonding is available on a job to job basis. Always make sure your marine contractor has both licenses. Click here to see if your contractor is registered.

I already have a permit, can I switch contractors?

In the interest of time, permits are often obtained before a contractor is selected. We can be your contractor and notify the proper agencies. As long as you have not signed a contract, or do not have a legally binding agreement, you can change your mind at any time. The MDE requests notificaiton before work begins. County agencies need a change of contractor form. We can assist you with all of these requirements.
